Who We Are

We strive to provide a unique atmosphere in God’s creation that gives the opportunity for our guests to listen and respond to God’s voice through fellowship, worship, and high adventure activities.

In 1980, Tim and Charlene Worrell moved from Wyoming to Capitan, New Mexico to pioneer the first New Mexico Lone Tree Camp. Home for the first two months for Tim, Charlene and their two children was an 8’ x 10’ canvas tent. Their children were 2 years old and 5 months old at the time. A logging permit was secured on the Apache reservation and using an old horse and a borrowed harness, logs were hauled out of the forest for the first building on the property. Originally intended to be their home, they decided to use it for the main lodge for the camp to start serving others and get the camp off the ground. You can still see the chainsaw marks on the logs in the current game room made as each log was shaped for its place.

Over the years, through donations and volunteers, the camp has grown into a year-round facility hosting a variety of groups. The mission remains steadfast: to use high adventure activities to build relationships with guests and share the love of Jesus Christ.

Summer Camps

Our Programing Philosophy
We can take care of running camp

This allows you as leaders to have time to invest in your students. We believe in corporate worship as well as small group discussion to allow campers to We take care of the teaching, small group material, worship (or you can bring your own), the week long MXC games, and everything else that is summer camp. We love running our program and train hard to make it new and exciting every year!

Facility Rental

Run camp as you see fit by providing your own teaching, worship, and programming. Our staff will come alongside your leaders and make camp special for every student. With your program we still staff activities and provide great meals. We are flexible to your schedule and to your vision of camp. Our entire summer camp facility can be reserved exclusively for your group, with a minimum of 120 people.

Great Meals

We understand that the food on a retreat or summer week can make or break your experience! We strive hard to have excellent food at camp in both the variety of the meals we offer and the atmosphere.

All our meals are served family style with 8 to 10 people at each table. Busy schedules for students and adults don’t allow people to sit and have a meal together as often as they used to. We are surprised every year at the comments we get from leaders and students about being able to sit down and enjoy a family style meal.

We offer a salad bar at every lunch and dinner. Hot soup is offered at lunch and we keep the coffee, hot tea, and other hot drinks out from early morning to early evening. Enjoy some coffee with a buddy in our dining hall.

Men’s and Women’s retreats can rest assured that the menus we serve reflect the age group of the guests we are serving.

Special Dietary Needs

Our kitchen and food service is a pride for our camp. Any special dietary needs your group may have can be communicated during your 30 day call in. However although we strive to meet your group’s needs, we are not a made to order kitchen like a restaurant. We order food one week in advance and due to our remote location, we are unable to run down to the local store to pick something up. Any extreme dietary needs that cannot be met by our salad bar or food service (i.e. individually prepared meals) should be met by that particular individual and they should plan to eat in a family style setting during their stay at the Ranch.

We have found that people who have diabetic needs, gluten allergies, dairy allergies, or are on strict protein diets can meet their own needs with our salad bar and by bringing their own drinks and snacks. Please note that due to our high standards of cleanliness, New Mexico Environment Health Department Standards, and busy food service schedule, guests are not permitted in the kitchen to prepare their own food. We do however have a refrigerator and microwave available 24 hours a day in our dining hall to help accommodate any special dietary needs.

Food Allergy Disclaimer

Lone Tree makes every attempt to identify ingredients that may cause allergic reactions for those with food allergies and every effort is made to educate our food production staff on the severity of food allergies. However Lone Tree cannot guarantee and will not assume any liability for adverse reactions to foods consumed, or items one may come in contact with while eating at the camp. Please be aware that during normal operations involving shared cooking and preparation areas, the possibility exists for food items to come in contact with other food products. There is also a possibility that manufacturers of the commercial foods we use could change the formulation at any time, without notice. Parents and guests concerned with food allergies need to be aware of these risks. Due to these circumstances, we are unable to guarantee that any menu items can be completely free of allergens.

A Letter From The Director

Lisa and I started full time at Lone Tree in 1991 after multiple seasons on summer staff. This is
more than a job for us. We have lived our lives here, raised our two daughters here, and have
been blessed to see thousands of guests come through our facilities. As many years have gone by, we are committed to hang on to the ministry philosophy that this camp was built on; using high adventure activities to build a platform of friendship which leads to ministry opportunities. Although our ministry philosophy has remained unchanged since the start of the Ranch in 1980, we are ever changing, seeking and pursuing new and effective ways to minister to our guests. We realize that not everyone is the same and each person has unique needs.

Our goal is to have a variety of activities, facilities, and programming to meet you and your group’s needs! It is our prayer that every person who comes to the Ranch leaves one step closer in their relationship with Christ, whether they hear the Gospel for the first time or need a place to rest on the weekend and get refocused on their relationship.

We hope to see you at the Ranch this year!

Ways To Get Involved

Monthly Support

We currently are raising a good portion of our operation budget. This helps continue to keep the cost of camp down for our guests. Since we are a non-denominational camp, we do not have any financial backing from any particular denomination or organization.

Staff Support

Our full time staff are asked to raise 50% of their salary and our summer staff to raise 100% of their pay to keep the cost down for our campers. Please keep in mind that our full time staff and summer staff need monthly supporters or one time gifts.

Volunteer

We are always in need of volunteers at our camps. Whether you are one person or a group we could use you. If you have specific skills that you think can help, we would love to hear from you. There are always projects to be done at all of our camps. Email us today and see how you can help!

Other Needs

  • Cook for Fort Lone Tree
  • Hay for the horses or pasture for them to graze.
  • Donations towards the New Land located by Lone Tree Ranch
